proKa

The exceptional performance of potassium

proKa® is a nutriliming agent rich in calcium, potassium, sulphur, magnesium, and minor elements. It is designed to correct the pH, enrich the soil with more than 5% potassium sulphate and supply optimum conditions for high yields. proKa® is recommended when soil analysis shows a need for lime and potassium supplementation.

Since most plants perform better in a pH ranging from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline, lime application on acidic soil is a prerequisite for the optimal use of nutrients. proKa® is highly rich in calcium hydroxide, which reacts much quicker than agricultural lime to raise the pH. The high solubility of Agro-100’s nutriliming agents enhances the availability of nutrients required for early root development and plant growth. By stimulating early development, the nutriliming agent proKa®, in combination with regular fertilization, activates and sustains robust plant growth.

The plant’s capacity to take nutrients is limited, since less than 2% of soil surface is in contact with the roots. According to Barber (1995), diffusion, mass flow and interception contribute, respectively, for about 80, 18 and 2% of potassium delivered to roots. Through diffusion, potassium moves toward the roots’ surface in short distances. Plants cannot use potassium only from the soil solution. In fact, soil solution K concentrations vary from 1 to 10 ppm while the fraction of exchangeable potassium may vary from 20 to 1,000 ppm (Pagani et al., 2013). It is estimated that only 10 to 20% of the crop’s nutrition is ensured by soil solution and exchangeable potassium (adsorbed on the surface of clay particles). The remainder of the plant’s needs in potassium must be supplied by other sources. Potassium fertilization is thus essential. Solubility and distribution of the potassium applied are extremely important for potassium availability. The nutriliming agent proKa® provides potassium, in the readily available form of potassium sulphate, to complement granular fertilization. In its available form, calcium promotes plant growth and improves resistance to diseases. Sulphur, another key element of proKa®, is vital in plant development and its availability is crucial to the metabolism of crops. Sulphur input helps to maintain the right nitrogen-sulphur ratio in the soil for matter to decompose. Finally, proKa® supplies magnesium, the key element in photosynthesis (the central atom of chlorophyll), and activates many enzymes in the plant’s metabolism.

  • BNQ-certified fertilizing residual material (FRM)
  • Direct and sustainable action on soil pH
  • Optimizes the effectiveness of fertilizers
  • Favours better usage of soil reserves
  • Simultaneously provides readily available Ca, K, Mg and S
  • Supplies essential minor elements in a readily available form to the plant
  • Improves yields and crop quality
  • Profitable and cost-effective fertilization input
  • Recommended for all crops, but particularly in sulphur-intensive crops (cabbage, canola, alfalfa, soybean, corn, etc.)

In conclusion, proKa® offers the dual capacity of liming and fertilizing in a single operation. On top of its positive impact on soil pH and providing precious essential nutrients to the plant, proKa® improves soil health and optimizes yields. The high agronomic value and “nutriliming” synergy found in proKa® make fertilization more profitable and promote an increase in productivity.
